Just a little re-vamp…

I thought that since it has been almost 2 years on my site that a little re-vamping was needed… So we have an awesome new header with my logo designed my the most awesome Squirrel Junkie… as well as a lovely big link at the top to my shop… Nothing majorly different other than that besides a little internal house keeping. But that is always useful. I do hope you all enjoy and if anyone has comments, concerns or just want to say hi… please do!!

Thank you all for visiting and have a fabulous weekend!!

Chai and the 365…

Chai, my T42 Blythe and I will be venturing on a journey this year. A photo a day! What can I say but obviously I am a glutton for punishment. I cannot promise the stars and the moon but we do have a few tricks up our sleeve that “may” help. And hopefully it will help that this is a challenge brought on by my favorite and only sister- Stephanie!

Chai is resting up since we start our journey tomorrow…

An update…

The latest in my life is that my husband and I have decided to adapt a vegetarian life. For him it is a first and for myself… well a long time coming in returning to a lifestyle I stupidly departed from. But this time around as a vegetarian I am doing things a bit different. I was raised a vegetarian, it wasn’t just a choice for me, it was the only way my parents could get me to eat. Then we relied pretty heavily on meat substitutes. Now… I am choosing to not use them, but to honestly eat just my veggies! With the exception of the occasional Morning Star Farms corn dogs… so tasty and hard to give up!

So with that being said I have started the journey to find even more tasty ways to make and eat all the beautiful veggies out there. And I am writing them down. Not to write a cookbook but to keep track of them! Matt and I make a weekly trip to the Farmer’s market to see what is there and fresh and write a menu for the week based off of the veggies in season.

In the 2.5 months that we have been eating this way, both Matt and I, have  felt healthier and much better about our environment. Not to mention how much we save on our grocery bill!  The menu for this past week was as follows:

Monday-  Tofu Noodle Soup

Tuesday- Portobello Steaks, Sauteed Summer Squash, Herb Roasted Potatoes

Wednesday- Portobello, Onion, Spinach Quiche

Thursday- Pinto Bean Spinach Soft Tacos

Friday- Leftovers!

As we continue on this journey, I’d like to make it a goal to include an AMAZING recipes I find here. As well as any horribly bad ones to help anyone who wants a tasty healthy alternative to a burger and fries now and then. 🙂

Blythe Ambassador

For you who know me well, you know that I carry one of my Blythes with me every single day, along with my camera. But for the people I encounter everyday, many of them do not have a clue about my girls. This morning, I had Sydney with me, my ADG Effluo custom girly… who has quite the attitude!  Since it is a dreary rainy day here, and I had promised Syd a few pics today, I pulled her out of my bag while on the bus to work to snap a quick pic from my phone. That was when it happened… all of the ladies around me on the bus started nudging each other and pointing!! At me! Or rather I should say at Syd!

As my fellow Blythe friends know, I have converted quite a few people onto Blythe fanatics… so here we go again! I told the ladies the story of Blythe and about her history, as well as about my meager collection. Most of the ladies just smiled and nodded, I’m sure thinking that I am a bit of a nutter! But one lady was absolutely interested as she held Syd and snapped pics herself with her phone. I explained that most Blythes spend their time harassing their humans to take photos of them and that we post them to Flickr. This prompted her to ask for my Flickr info… which I gave her on one of my Moo cards. As we pulled in to Philadelphia, the group of ladies made my promise to show them each one of my girls, including Trixie my newest addition, a 5StarDoll Lura ball jointed doll.

So yet again, I have found that no matter who you are or how old you are, Blythe can and will win the hearts of everyone she meets.

Here is the pics I took which made all the ladies start asking about Blythe and getting to know a little bit more about me.

One of my favorite recipes…

As a kid my mom made our own cereals; my brother is allergic to artificial colors, flavors and preservatives,  anything bought at the store was out of the question for us. As a money saving tool as well as for health reasons, I asked my mom for the recipe months ago and was graced with the cookbook she used; the More- With-Less Cookbook by Doris Janzen Longacre.

One of my many favorite things about my mom is how she has always written notes in her cookbooks to record her life. She first tried the Simple Granola recipe on 12-15-1981 when I was just 3 years old… I made a batch this afternoon with a few substitutes that came out pretty awesome. Instead of 1 cup of honey, I used 1 cup of maple syrup from a family friends farm in Michigan with 1 package of broken walnuts…

All of the additional notes she wrote in were for tracking our sodium intake… My mother is a nurse and has always been very health conscious, which thankfully did pass down to me.

Calling all Customizers and Craftsters!

Dearest Blythe Friends,

Many of you know Rob & Sioux, FroggyMonkey, Wendy of tinysea and Michelle from They and myself have been working on a plan to help Rob’s niece Alissia who is fighting a rare form of brain cancer and just had a stem cell transplant. Her family needs your help to cover the mounting medical costs of her care.

Do you want to help us out?? Are you a Blythe customizer?? Do you make awesome hats, dresses, or Blythe accessories? Then you can help us. We are looking for a customizer to donate their services as well as craftsters and artisans to donate hand made items for an auction to raise funds to be donated to Alissia’s family to cover their mounting medical expenses.

If you’re not the crafty kind, you can still help! We will also be accepting items such as nib re-ment, etc. Or if you’d like to make a monetary donation, please check out her parents’ as well as to keep up to date on her progress.

If you are interested in donating your skills, you may leave us a comment on our website which we have set up for the auction or you may contact any of us via Blythe Kingdom.

Thank you.

This one is for Alissia

Through the world of Blythe and Flickr I have met a ton of amazing people… a few of them in person and many not, but this has never affected the relationship built between us. Months ago an amazing photographer milk & kisses told us about her niece, Alissia who was struggling with being sick. It was right before Alissia’s 3rd birthday we found out it was brain cancer. Alissia now needs a stem cell transplant.

I feel for this family and for Alissia, who shares the same birthday as me. In my own family we have gone through 3 separate brain surgeries… my mother had 2 when I turned 13 years old for a cyst at the base of her spinal cord blocking fluids… and my brother had his surgery 5 years ago for an aneurysm. I know how scary this can be, so I feel strongly about helping when and where you can.

Here is what I ask… please visit the site her family has set up for her IF you can donate… and if not, bare minimum please keep her in your prayers.
