A big week in Wedding news…

It has been a big week for me on the wedding front. Firstly, I have received the gifts I planned for my wedding party. Then there was the first of the dress fittings. I have a mere 33 days to go!

For my ladies in my wedding party, I decided to do something a little different for their gifts. I know that tradition dictates jewelry to wear for the wedding, at least that’s what I have always received. But I’m a little more practical than that… I had small custom totes made!! Or reuseable lunch bags… for my girls to use as they see fit!

I got these from the amazing Besu, from Etsy who I originally met on Twitter in the Blythe group. She was more than amazing about working with me to make these exactly as I wanted. I had found the fabric outside of Philadelphia, Ladybutton Fabrics, and then sent it to her.  I thought that this would be a great gift as it is environmentally friendly, as well as much cooler than those on the market and matches the theme for our wedding.

Also this week was my first wedding dress fitting. I have always loved the fashion period called the New Look which was from 1947 – 1953 and inspired by Christian Dior. So of course this is the look that I have chosen for my wedding dress. Here is the dress that started it all for me… I loved this dress but knew I couldn’t quite pull it off as it looks here.

So I had my dear friend and co-worker Bobby Fabulous, design a dress for me that would be similar yet fitting for me. Bobby Fab is a costume designer by day and night and also an amazing guy. He understands women and how we come in all shapes and sizes with different styles.  I love him dearly for working so hard on my dress and the wedding!  I wanted it to be a little smaller of a skirt and strapless since the whole shindig will be outside. But felt that I should have my shoulders covered for during the ceremony. I would hate for my new family to think me a hussy! So this is what Bobby came up with for me…

The dress has a champagne satin base with an ivory lace overlay detachable sash/belt and lace shrug. Please excuse the photos as they were taken outside of my workplace and obviously makeup and hair were not done for this, and it was very sunny, hence the squinting. And so that I can have just one more element of the day of the dead theme, I had Besu make a little something for me and here it is…

The brooch is detachable with a zipper closure and the lining matches the sash/belt on my dress. If you are looking for an absolute wonderful clutch, bag or little wallet; I highly recommend checking out Besu on Etsy. She really is the best.

Factory Girl Arrives!

I was super excited to say the least that this Wednesday at work a new girl came in through the front door and asked if she could be mine… Her name is Siobhan, and here is the little one after a few hair treatments, gaze correction and sleep eyes.

As for the overall quality of the factory/ prototype blythes… As I only adopted 1 girl I can only compare her to my Takaras and my Basaak clone.

The factory girl is almost perfection, she has some strange configuration to her thatching/ rooting. The part line looks good but the back of the crown is a little sparse. My Ivy (Simply Peppermint) has amazingly thick hair. And while Liv (Cousin Olivia) has long hair, it isn’t as thick.

Siobhan’s body is a standard Takara body which matches well. She will truely be loved as a Brasscupcake.

The plunge…

So I have taken it… the plunge to purchase Blythe #5 and what I say will be my last one… at least to keep in the house. The limit shall be 5 at one time. If there is another girl who sparks my interest, then I will have to adopt out one of the current girls.  So this is the girl I am currently waiting on…

My wonderful twitter friend, duherica, posted the link for her, which was amazing to me… mainly because I had been about to email her seller asking her to post her on eBay so that I could purchase her. But as fate had decided, she was already up there. Now as many of you know… Blythes are not cheap. But she was!! A grand total of $65 plus shipping. I am seriously hoping there isn’t much wrong with her when she gets here. She has been shipped and now I am just waiting for my little redhead.

Here are some more shots of the little lovely.

I get the impression that she is Irish… so therefore needs an Irish name…. I’ve got a few ideas but would love some help here.

1. Logan- One of my family’s names a few generations back.

2. Moira- Just have always loved this one.

3. Maeve- A major Queen in Celtic mythology.

If anyone has ideas for this… leave me a comment! I would love to hear what y’all have to say on my new little one!
